Después de que los republicanos catalanes ofrecieran detalles sobre su propuesta de consulta, el ala socialista del Gobierno salió rápidamente a rechazar la celebración de cualquier tipo de votación sobre la autodeterminación, y en esto los votantes socialistas están muy mayoritariamente con el presidente Pedro Sánchez: únicamente un 19% de quienes votaron al PSOE en 2019 aceptaría la propuesta de referéndum de ERC, por más de un 69% que la rechaza tajantemente.
